Week 1 Devotional
Week 1 — Shiphrah & Puah: When Saying “No” Is Holy
Scripture (KJV): “But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them…” (Exodus 1:17)
Snapshot: Pharaoh issues a cruel order. Two Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, refuse. They fear God more than a throne, and God “dealt well with” them (1:20–21).
Lesson for Today: Courage isn’t loud bravado; it’s quiet obedience when compromise looks safer. If a command, culture, or contract pushes you to dishonor God, you don’t need a committee vote—you need conviction. Fear God, not fallout.
Heart Check
Where am I tempted to “go along to get along”? Whose approval weighs more on my decisions—God’s or people’s? What small act of obedience could break a big chain?
Take It to Prayer
Lord, make my spine steady and my soul tender. Teach me to fear You more than consequences, and to honor You in what I refuse as much as in what I do. Amen.
One-Thing Challenge
Draw a hard boundary this week in one area you’ve been compromising. Name it. Write it. Keep it.
Memory Verse (KJV)
“Be strong and of a good courage…” (Joshua 1:9a)
