As some of you know from reading my “About Me” section and other’s know from being friends of the family, we lost our youngest son in May of 2021. It was that loss that helped to birth this ministry in me, because we, women of Christ who have lost a child to such tragedies aren’t always able to find the support that we so desperately need. Yes, we have the support of our church members and there are other support groups available for us, but I found that those “text book” support groups couldn’t really reach me where I was. I needed to talked to someone who had lived through or was going through what I was going through, and could understanding that even then, each mothers pain was unique to her relationship with her child. Mine was my “Baby Boy” youngest of 8, my “Change of Life Child” the only child that my husband of 22yrs and I shared together. Raised somewhat like and only child because he was 14yrs after all the others, who grew up and moved out. We had a uniquely different bond.
A part of me was buried with him, however out of the ashes emerged a stronger, a more determined woman. A woman who is willing to talk to others just like me and help them through this grief phase because it’s tough trying to do it alone. Depression and isolation set it and if you’re not careful you can get trapped there indefinitely. We can learn to live again, make no mistake our pain is still there, it’s still real and for me nearly 4 years later, it still cut’s like it did on day one. It’s how I choose to process that pain and move forward today that matters. I still cry, I still have tuff days, I also forgive the young man who shot my son DAILY so that I don’t build up any unnecessary resentments. Spiritually, I know this is necessary to keep my flesh in line.
So, I choose to make myself available to help women like myself navigate their way through the challenge’s that grief over loosing a child to gun violence brings. I am not licensed in any way, I’m just a mom who has lost a son and is willing to and able to listen and talk to other moms in the same boat.
